Going Under The Knife…Without The Knife
Going under the knife is now a thing of the past. There is a new procedure, similar to gastric bypass surgery, but there is no incision. This new procedure is called Toga, which is abbreviated for transoral gastroplasty. Surgeons are now using tiny cameras connected to tubes, and insert them through a natural opening of the patient’s body. This specific procedure staples a portion of the stomach, which causes the patient to heal faster than before. The new procedure has also been used to remove the appendix through the mouth and the gallbladder through the opening in the vagina.

This is a very significant discovery making surgery much safer to the patient. As of now any surgery is dangerous and could possibly be deadly. Invasive procedures greatly reduce the risk of death or complications in surgery and I'm glad to see advancements are being made in this field.

This will have a huge effect on people’s decision on getting this surgery. Most people are scared to have surgery because they don’t want any cutting being made on their bodies. More people will live with this surgery, because if they keep from having surgery, bad health will come about.
ReplyDeleteThis is discovery is a huge one because people usually are anxious about 'going under the knife' because not only the term itself, but also the fact that their bodies are being cut open during the process. This procedure also seems lease invasive.
ReplyDeleteI think this discovery will be really popular in the medicine world coming up really soon because most of people who are getting surgery fear getting under the knife the most. People hate having scars from various surgeries that they have. This procedure will reduce the size of the scar and the fear of getting under the knife will suddenly disappear.

The best part about this discovery is the fact that it does not involve a knife but it is also reversible. The studies done have had minimal reverse results and even when it went wrong the patients were only uncomfortable for 5 days after. This could be the knew answer to weight loss, but one more question... what does it cost? and will money be an issue in this discoveries success?
ReplyDeleteAlthough i still think this is nasty, it is definitely a safer and easier alternative to the slice and dice of the former method. I think dieting is much more natural and simple than this, but the technology that comes with this is incredible. Also, i think many more people will consider this as an option now that there is no knife involved.
