California School Ban Bake Sales Because of High Calories

Schools in California have been forced to remove bake sales from their campus. The Calfornia school board banned 175 calorie snacks from elementary schools and 250 calorie snacks from middle schools and high schools. The reason for any controversy is not about the snacks themselves but the profit made by the event which is a major component in all of the school's fundraising. Some parents say its their decision on what the kids by because they are present during the event. So should these fundraisers continue or seize to exist?

  1. this is sooo coool i hate california they would ban something like this because they are all liberals . they think that the government should control every aspect of their lives when really it should be the individual persons choice whether or not they wanna eat calories. this is ridiculous and it makes me mad

  2. I think that removing bake sales because of high calories is a little ridiculous. Bake sales are usually used as fundraisers to raise money for something. Usually children and teens use bake sales, so what will they do if bake sales are banned? I think bake sales are totally fine. IF you do not want to eat allot of calories then don’t buy something from a bake sale. Its all your decision.

  3. I think this is another great topic. Banning calories has pluses and minuses. The pluses are that if calories are banned it can make a big difference and improve kids health but on the minus side i agree with Fax. What your child eats is really not the schools decision, it's yours and your child's. This would also make it easier on the school because they wouldn't have to deal with this problem.
