Recently, scientists have found enclosed free-floating organelles in primitive cells that are making them reconsider their ideas about cell evolution. Until now, scientists have been convinced that prokaryotes do not contain any internal organelles. Profesor Roberto Decampo's discovery of an organelle (a bacteria called Agrobacterium tumefaciens) is one that may disprove the widely accepted theory that early eukaryotes swallowed prokaryotes. This recent discovery leads scientists to believe that eukaryotes and prokaryotes may have a common evolutionary origin. If it is true that they have a common ancestor, the way in which scientists study cells will be changed forever!
